What is OCIA?

OCIA is the Church’s process for welcoming and forming people who are preparing to enter the Catholic Church or complete the Sacraments of Christian Initiation.



For adults preparing for Confirmation, OCIA provides a journey of prayer, conversion, formation, and discussion. Participants learn more about Catholic teaching, consider how Jesus Christ has worked in their lives, and prepare to receive the grace of the sacrament.

Who is OCIA intended for?

  • A person who has never been baptized and desires to learn about the Catholic Church, with the possibility of becoming Catholic
  • A person baptized in another Christian tradition who desires full communion with the Catholic Church
  • A baptized Catholic who desires to complete the Sacraments of Christian Initiation through Confirmation and/or Holy Eucharist
  • A returning Catholic who has been away from the Church and desires reconciliation and a renewed sacramental life

When will I be confirmed?

After faithfully participating in the OCIA process and attending Mass each Sunday, participants receive Confirmation and/or Holy Eucharist on or around Pentecost of the following year.

He has put His seal on us and given us His Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
