Confirmation

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation begins when our children enter sixth grade. From sixth through eighth grades, youth meet on Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. in the parish hall. They dive more deeply into the faith and begin to uncover the mysteries of Catholic teaching. In eighth grade, students begin immediate preparation for the coming of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.

What are the effects of Confirmation?

Confirmation brings the full outpouring of the Holy Spirit, as once granted to the apostles on the day of Pentecost. It deepens baptismal grace, unites us more firmly to Christ, increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and leaves an indelible mark on the soul.

These seven gifts are tools that strengthen our faith and help us share it with others as Jesus did. Teens learn how to recognize and use these gifts in everyday life.

What does a Confirmation sponsor do?

Confirmation sponsors bring candidates to receive the sacrament, present them to the minister for anointing, and later help them fulfill their baptismal promises faithfully under the influence of the Holy Spirit.



A sponsor must be spiritually prepared for this responsibility and possess sufficient maturity to fulfill the role.

  • The sponsor must be a member of the Catholic Church who has received Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Eucharist.
  • The sponsor must be in good standing with the Church, believe its teachings, and be in full communion with the Church.

Because a sponsor has a significant role in the candidate’s development, this person should be a living example of faith whose actions reflect Jesus Christ. A sponsor offers support and encouragement during preparation and need not be the same gender as the candidate.



The Church encourages candidates to consider their godparents as sponsors because of Confirmation’s close connection to Baptism. If you do not know someone who meets the criteria, please ask the parish for help identifying a suitable sponsor.
