DayStar Life Center
Neighbors helping neighbors through food assistance, practical support, and community referrals.
DayStar Life Center is an all-volunteer organization helping families in need throughout Hernando County. The center provides food assistance and offers information and referrals to city, state, and federal agencies.
Location
DayStar is located on Hope Hill Road, one-half mile south of St. Anthony the Abbot Catholic Church.
Donations
DayStar accepts monetary donations, nonperishable food, and material donations such as furniture, appliances, housewares, and clean clothing that can be sold in its thrift shops.
Donation pickups are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout Hernando County. Call 352-346-2841 or 352-263-3591 to arrange a pickup.
Monthly food collection
Nonperishable food is collected at all Masses on the third weekend of each month. Collection barrels are placed outside the church doors so parishioners may leave donations before entering for Mass.
Become a volunteer
Volunteers are needed in the office, in thrift-shop sorting, and to assist on the trucks without driving. You may help one day a week for four hours or assist once or twice a year with special projects. No experience is necessary; some training is required.
Shop at the thrift shops
The thrift shops are open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
